Where there is water, there is life… and not only for people. The surrounding fields have depended on it for centuries. During the Muslim period, a small alquería called Al-aquas was established beside an ingenious network of acequias (traditional irrigation canals), providing the water needed to irrigate the crops.

Today, much of that agricultural landscape has disappeared. Should we preserve this historic irrigation system, or should it give way to modern development?
